Round 6, Pick 10: 49ers select Vanderbilt OT Justin Skule

Apr 27, 2019 at 12:43 PM

The San Francisco 49ers selected Vanderbilt OT Justin Skule with the pick (No. 183 overall) in the sixth round of the 2019 NFL Draft.

Skule started all 25 games for the Commodores over the last two seasons. He has experience playing both left and right tackle and will compete for a role as the team's swing tackle.

NFL.com projected Skule to be an undrafted free agent. The site wrote the following about Skule within its scouting report:

"Top-heavy, high-cut swing tackle prospect who plays with a lack of bend and possesses average physical traits, but finds ways to get guys blocked using technique and football intelligence. The step up on competition may be too much for Skule in pass protection, but he may have enough agility to warrant an extended look as a player who can swing between guard and tackle either at the back-end of a roster or on a practice squad."

Tony Pauline of Draft Analyst wrote the following about Skule within his scouting report:

"Skule has next-level size and a great feel for blocking and gets the most from his ability. He's a versatile lineman who can be used at the next level as a swing tackle."

May 13

It's not a shock to anyone who looks back at the past two NFL seasons to contemplate that the San Francisco 49ers' offense has finally stepped out of the shadow cast by the team's ever-imposing defense.
